Those Hot & Heavy Scenes

Dust Of My Wings CoverYou know the scenes I’m talking about, the ones about *lowers voice* s.e.x. In real life if you’ve met me you know I’m the type that blushes easily. Who would’ve thought that?

Yes, I’m erotic romance writer, but sometimes, it’s nice just to be able to hide behind my books and write about the things that are on my mind and the things that you want to read. I love reading the book with his heart and he seems make you want to turn the pages that they burn your fingertips as you do. You can literally see the steam coming off the pages. That is the best type of erotic scene.

Those types of scenes put you in the mood don’t they?

Okay not really don’t tell me the details, keep those to yourself. Or maybe tell them, it’s up to you.

What happens when we as writers have to write them, how do we do it? Is it simply insert tab A into slot B? If that was it, would be pretty bored. And so would you. You need to be able to feel what the characters feeling, every touch, everyone, every…you know.

You have to really get into the story is rewriting it in order for the reader to get into it. When I’m sitting down and writing a scene I try to think what they would do, not what I do. Because it’s not me and that scene, it’s my characters. Lily and Shade are their own people and need to come together in their own way.

Shade is an angel, therefore stronger and may have different stamina and a man in real life. Come on, you know you like that idea. Lily may be human but she still has to deal with Shade not being so. Sometimes you just have to close your eyes and rain, and see what your characters do. The more you’re into it, the hotter it could be.

See, just imagine your hero sliding his hand up your thigh, gripping your hip…and you know.

That’s what you need to imagine when you’re writing it, and when you’re reading, the more you place yourself and seeing the hotter it can be.

What do you think about when you read the scenes? Are you the heroine, the hero, or the voyer? What makes a scene hot? Is it the details, the way it makes you feel, the way the characters feel, is everything?

Dust of My Wings Blurb

Humans aren’t as alone as they choose to believe. Every human possesses a trait of supernatural that lays dormant within their genetic make-up. Centuries of diluting and breeding have allowed humans to think they are alone and untouched by magic. But what happens when something changes?

Neat freak lab tech, Lily Banner lives her life as any ordinary human. She’s dedicated to her work and loves to hang out with her friends at Dante’s Circle, their local bar. When she discovers a strange blue dust at work she meets a handsome stranger holding secrets – and maybe her heart. But after a close call with a thunderstorm, she may not be as ordinary as she thinks.

Shade Griffin is a warrior angel sent to Earth to protect the supernaturals’ secrets. One problem, he can’t stop leaving dust in odd places around town. Now he has to find every ounce of his dust and keep the presence of the supernatural a secret. But after a close encounter with a sexy lab tech and a lightning quick connection, his millennia old loyalties may shift and he could lose more than just his wings in the chaos.

Dust of My Wings Excerpt

Lily huffed out a breath and placed another tile. “I don’t hate my job, exactly. It’s just not that big of a deal.” She gave a triumphant smile. “And I win.”

Shade looked into her eyes and groaned. Damn, she was sexy when she looked so confident.

“Indeed you did. Congratulations, Lily.” Now for the part that could hurt them both. “How about I buy you a cup of coffee as your winnings?”

Lily looked taken aback, but Shade didn’t budge. He needed to know exactly what she knew about this dust. Breaking into her lab and stealing it would do nothing if the die were already cast.

“Oh, you don’t have to do that. In fact, I really don’t even know you, so I can’t. But thank you.”

She gathered the tiles quickly and started to stand up, but Shade touched her wrist. She jumped, knocking a few tiles back on the table. A jolt of electricity ricocheted through his arm and they both gasped. His erection pressed against the zipper of his jeans and he groaned, but he didn’t let go. Lily’s breath quickened and her pupils dilated. Her strawberry scent wrapped around him like velvet, intoxicating.

  1. sorry i didn’t make it over here sooner. i agree one has to go with the story as it flows. great blogs.

  2. I think what really makes these scenes hot is the connection between the hero and heroine – how they feel about one another, how they’re able to let go and trust one another with their bodies and hearts. What can be more hot than that?

  3. Interesting post! I like your points about writing the naughty scenes. I usually feel like a voyuer when reading them in your books. Kinda like i shouldn’t be there! LOL!
