Hello, friends. It’s 2017. How do you feel about this new beginning? Ready to step over the carcass of 2016 and move on? What have you got planned for this year?

I make my plans for the year ahead at the end of the previous year, so for 2017, I made my plans in December, 2016. One of my goals is to write three books in 2017. Two will be part of the Virtue, Arizona, Series (stories about Faith, Hope, and Mercy), and I’d also like to write a book set in ancient Rome. I’ve done extensive studying on the period and think I’m about ready to write something set there. I may write more than three books, but my plan is for a minimum of three.

I’m also going to be taking a Master Class from Chef Gordon Ramsay, and completing several other college-level classes on various topics. I’m an inveterate learner and love to study literature, history, and biology in particular.

In 2017 I’ll also be doing some crafting, mainly cross stitch and knitting. I find it relaxing and it flexes other creative muscles.

I hope that whatever you do in 2017, you’ll be doing it with gusto and enthusiasm. I wish you the best.

Happy New Year!

2014 18422306_sHave you made your list of New Year’s resolutions yet? It’s almost January 1, so don’t fall behind. After all, you have to have something to start shirking on when the holiday is over.

My advice is not to put “lose weight” and “exercise more” and “stop smoking” on the list. Make those resolutions all the time, and not just the first week of 2014.

Can you believe it’s almost 2014? 2013 whizzed by. I put out seven books this year. That seems to be my magic number. It keeps me busy and out of trouble. One of my New Year’s resolutions for 2014 is to write more short stories and post them as free reads on my site. I have one slated in my 2014 plan, but it likely won’t be written until July, as my writing calendar is booked for all but that month of the year. Still, it’ll be fun to share another story with you and I’m looking forward to it.

Our usual New Year celebration consists of champagne and (cheap) caviar with blini on New Year’s Eve, and the Winter Classic hockey game on January 1. I love making wings and breaking out the veggies and dip for that fun sporting event. In 2014, it’ll be held in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in the “Big House” stadium of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. The teams will be the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs. It’s going to be an awesome game. I can hardly wait!

marieappert / 123RF Stock PhotoOh, and don’t forget the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California, on January 1. When I was a little girl, my great-uncle and -aunt had a little shop right on the Rose Parade route. I remember standing on tables staring out at the parade going by while drinking hot cocoa with my family. As an older girl, I stayed overnight on the parade route, holding down a front row seat with a host of other teenagers. It was quite a party. And also in high school I got to ride on one of the floats during the parade. I waved and smiled and bid hello to thousands of people on that chilly day. It was great fun!

And if you’re a football fan, you have to watch the Rose Bowl game that day. Is your favorite college team going to be playing?

Have a safe and happy New Year’s celebration. I wish you a healthy and prosperous 2014!
