Want to Know The Trouble with Abby (by Stevie MacFarlane)?

TroublewithAbby-SMAs part of my ongoing series of introductions to interesting authors, please allow me to present Stevie MacFarlane, who brings us trouble…The Trouble with Abby, that is. Please join me in welcoming her to Patricia Green Books today.

Stevie answered a question for me, so that you could get to know her a little better.

Patricia: Are you like any of your heroines?

Stevie: Lol, I’m like all of my heroines or I have been at one time or another.  When I was younger I was very much like Bridget or Rebecca.  As the youngest of five children, (I have three sisters and one brother), I was pretty much used to getting my own way.  It has been said that I was spoiled, but I’m sure that’s not true.  I will admit to having a sarcastic mouth, but only in the nicest sense of the word.  Now that I’m older I feel more like Maeve.  I’m the matriarch of my own large family.

The Trouble with Abby is a spanking romance featuring a military man and a kick-ass heroine. What could be more yummy? Here’s a little bit about the book.

Abigail Steven’s life changed the moment she woke up in Connor McCabe’s bed. The former Navy Seal has his own code of conduct, and is hell-bent on teaching Abby a thing or two about proper behavior, for her own good, of course. Abby thinks the bossy, overgrown G.I Joe is gorgeous. He made her heart flutter and her knees weak, but she is perfectly capable of taking care of herself. After all, she has a black belt for cripes sake.

Connor disagrees and has no problem pulling her over his knee for a little convincing. Adjusting a naughty female attitude is right up his alley. When trouble comes to the O’Malley family, Abby and Connor suddenly find themselves up to their necks in danger. The women need a hero, but who will it be?

And here’s a thrilling excerpt:

The roar from the kitchen caught them both off guard, and Sean’s long strides had Maeve running to keep up.  The back door was open and they flew out of it to find their son bent over and inspecting his truck.

“What is it, Paddy? You scared the bejesus out of us,” Sean yelled.

“Look,” Patrick said, pointing at the vehicles.

Maeve stood still, shocked to the bone.  She could hear Connor’s feet pounding down the outside stairway, yelling at Abby to stay put.  He rounded the corner in just his jeans, pulling a T-shirt over his head that did nothing to hide the weapon strapped to his side.

“What the hell is it?” he called as he approached them.

“Look at all the tires,” Pat said in disgust.  “Some bastard’s sliced every one of them.”

Connor circled each vehicle and looked at the damage.  Patrick’s tires were flatter than a pancake, a wide slit in each one.  Connor’s own truck hadn’t fared any better, and he cursed under his breath, “Fucking punks.”

It wasn’t until he walked around Sean’s Tahoe that he stopped and stared.

“What’s going on?” Abby asked, rounding the stairway.  She was holding up a pair of his sweats, had on a camo tee shirt and her feet were bare.

“Dammit, Abby, do you ever listen?” he roared, running his hand though his short hair.

“Guess not,” she replied, squinting her eyes against the morning sun as she stumbled to his side.

He tried to keep her from seeing what he had been inspecting, but it was too late. Her hands flew to her throat as she gasped, his pants ending up around her ankles.  She paled visibly as her big brown eyes turned to Connor’s, seeming to demand an explanation.

“I think you better come and look at this,” Connor sighed, motioning to Sean and Pat.  “Abby, why don’t you and Maeve go inside and make some coffee?” he suggested, stooping to pull up her pants.  Taking her hand he wrapped it around the clump of material he’d gathered and tried to turn her toward the pub door.

“Look at what?” Maeve asked, coming between the vehicles.

“Nothing. Abby take Maeve inside and make coffee,” Connor growled between his teeth, giving Abby a little push.

“I know what you’re doin’, Connor McCabe, and you can save your breath.  I’m not a child to be rushed away from unpleasantness.  Now what are you hidin’?” Maeve demanded.

Connor stepped back and let her see the words scrawled across the passenger door on Sean’s vehicle.  ‘FUCKING BITCH’ was gouged deep into the black paint, the big ugly letters scraped down to the steel beneath.  This wasn’t a simple ‘keying’; this had meaning for whoever did it.

Sean pulled his wife to his side with a strong hold as he and Patrick nearly vibrated with shock and anger.  For once Maeve was silent, although Abby was crying.

“Call Rory,” was all he said as he propelled Maeve into the pub.
