It’s been a busy week, but lots of good things are going on. Today, I’m sharing more of my detective romance, Striker. This segment is pretty self-explanatory. It’s the opening of Chapter 2. (Some naughty language follows.)

The next morning, I realized it had been a huge mistake to allow my partner to drive the police vehicle to the scene of the latest murder. She was reckless and completely unconcerned about other cars. Sure, we had our flasher in the window and the siren on, but we were in an unmarked car. People were slower to get out of the way than they would be for a marked police car. “Geez, slow the fuck down!”

She grinned at me and slewed the car on the wet road. A moment later, she was back in control, but her grin was a little false. I gripped the oh shit bar above the window and held on for dear life.

I believe you are getting an idea of why Detective Striker’s partner might end up getting a reprimand.

That’s it for this weekend, except I want to remind you all that from Monday, April 13, through Saturday, April 18, I’ll be teaching an online class on The Writer’s Business Plan. I wrote a post about it, including the class syllabus, here. I invite you to take the plunge into making your writing business profitable by doing a little planning.

This week, I’d like to share something new. It resides with my publisher now, waiting on its final edits. Striker is a crime/mystery erotic spanking romance. (Clearly, it is not discriminating among genres.) This is my first book for 2015, and my 31st book overall (including a few written under a pen name). I’m particularly proud of it as it represents the beginning of a transition for me.

In this segment, Jase Striker, police detective, finds his brand new partner, Angelica Piccolino, sitting at his desk, looking over his files. They haven’t hit it off well, and this doesn’t make it better.

I poked my head into Piccolino’s space, intending to make peace, but she wasn’t there. Maybe she had to pee. I shrugged and walked across the aisle to my own desk.

There she was. Sitting in my chair, at my desk, poring over the case file I’d left there. She spoke up before I could give her a piece of my mind.

“Quiet as a yak.”

“Are you always so abrasive, or do I bring out your finer qualities?”

The new partnership is going to take some getting used to.

Hop along to all the other Weekend Writing Warriors’ sites. There’s a lot to read.

This post is part of the Weekend Writing Warriors blog hop. The following is a small segment of my first spanking romance novella, Kiki’s Millionaire (blurb and extended excerpt available from this link). It was published in 2010 as a serial, and later as a normal book through Blushing Books, Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

In this segment, Kiki is out on her first date with the prosperous and popular, Jim Chesterfield. Unfortunately, she’s got a bit of a potty mouth, and Jim has warned her numerous times that it’s a lousy habit to be in. He’s even threatened a spanking. At dinner, Kiki makes something of a spectacle of herself.

“You’re acting like a spoiled little girl.”

“You’re acting like a fucking pompous jackass.”

His frown deepened and he slid out of the booth, dragging her by the arm. “You deserve a spanking. Into the car. Now.”

“You wouldn’t dare,” she hissed.

“Oh, but I do dare.”

Of course, she’ll be given the choice of a spanking or a ride home with no further contact. Jim is hunky, rich, and a truly nice guy. Which do you think she’ll choose?

Welcome! I’m participating in Weekend Writing Warriors (this is the link directly to the hop) again this weekend, but instead of sharing another snippet from Rescued by the Spy, I’m going to share a bit from a new short story, resident here on my blog and absolutely free. It’s called “Among the Trees, There are Dreams” and it’s an erotic fairy tale.

Here’s my segment:

The villagers kept away, and that was her desire. She didn’t want the voices to bring her pain, make her too close to anyone. When they had nightmares, the images and their unconscious screams haunted her for a long time.

But this man, this intrepid man, had come into her forest. Why?

For a while, she sat beside him and listened to his dream. It was erotic, primitive, full of lust touched by tenderness. Although she’d experienced the sexual dreams of other people when she lived in the village, they had never been about her.

The short story is told in two segments. It’s part of my Short Stories in Five Minutes series, and each segment takes less than five minutes to read. I hope you’ll come back to read this free shortie, and moreover, I hope you enjoy it.

Have a lovely weekend!

Well, she’s taken off-world to the moon, Titan. Her experience there starts off rather badly (to say the least). This excerpt is R-rated, so please use discretion.

The ten women were led in a single-file line out into a noisy auditorium. They each tried to cover themselves with their hands for modesty but, of course, it was of little help. The auditorium was dense with smoke from tobacco and other weeds, making the number of persons present hard to estimate. Still, Nina thought there were maybe two hundred in the theatre-in-the-round style room. The women prisoners went up three stairs and onto a stage in the middle of the audience. There were guards positioned solidly around the bottom of the stage. The lights on the prisoners were harsh, further obscuring the audience from view. The women crowded together on the little platform, and the auction began.

This week, I’m continuing on with Nina’s confrontation with bad guys. You don’t need to have read my previous WWW entries in order to get the gist of this. Basically, Nina has chosen to go down a dark alley after grocery shopping. Here’s what happens:

“Sorry, lady, but we’re not interested in groceries,” the headman said. “And you couldn’t possibly have enough credits.” He nodded, and the three thugs behind her grabbed for Nina.

Her scream echoed in the tunnel, making the headman cringe, but he didn’t move. She swung her grocery bags, hoping forlornly they’d do some damage to any of the three who reached for her arms. Milk splattered all over the nearest tunnel wall and ran down into a puddle, and rice spilled onto the concrete, making Nina’s feet slip around, but the thugs weren’t slowed at all. She struggled against their hands, kicked at their shins, and tried to stomp on their feet. There were just too many of them, and their preparation far outweighed her old military training.

What do you think their nefarious plans are for her? I think it’s safe to say, it doesn’t look good.

They’re another segment from the beginning of the book, where Nina makes the mistake of going down a dark tunnel on the way home from the grocery store.

Sweat trickled down Nina’s spine and between her breasts as she hurried toward the open end of the tunnel. The footsteps weren’t furtive, but were easily keeping pace with her. She gritted her teeth, primal fear mixing with self-preservation instinct. In front of her, a shadow moved, and she knew, even as she gasped and came to a clumsy halt, that she was in deep trouble.

“Hey, lady,” the man snarled. He was only two-and-a-half meters in front of her, but she couldn’t quite make out his features yet.

“What do you want?” she demanded, trying to keep her voice modulated and not quite accomplishing it. “Let me pass.”

I’ve joined Weekend Writing Warriors. It’s a blog hop that is all about 8 stirring sentences from a variety of writers of all kinds of fiction. This isn’t all about spanking romance; it’s much more eclectic than that. I joined because I wanted to share excerpts that weren’t all spanking scenes. Let’s face it, there are only so many of them in each book, and who wants to give away all the cookies? Besides, like Rescued by the Spy, not everything I write is spanking romance.

So here I am. My inaugural excerpt is from my most recent release, Rescued by the Spy. If you haven’t encountered it yet, or are on the fence, trying to decide if you want to spend your $2.99 on it, maybe this excerpt will tease you into looking a little further.

In this segment, Nina (our heroine), is having a pretty rough time of it. She’s minding her own business, when she chooses to venture down a shortcut and into a dark tunnel. Big mistake.

She took another half-dozen steps into the tunnel before she hesitated, sensing something, maybe someone unseen.

Her brother Ted had warned her about this tunnel. People had disappeared from it, never to be heard from again. But there was little choice; it was either use the tunnel or walk blocks out of her way. And “Nitro” Nina wasn’t going to let a little thing like Ted’s warning’s keep her from doing what she perceived as the practical choice. Every little thing that could go wrong today had gone wrong, and she was damned if she was going to be late for the one thing that might redeem her day—a date! Her date would arrive at her flat before she did, if she didn’t hurry. She moved onward.

Read a little further for the plot summary.

A spy working for the Solarian Federation…
Michael O’Malley is undercover in a sting operation against Jerold Laricon, a man with Machiavellian social restructuring schemes and a desire for world domination.

Kidnapped and kept as a sex slave…
Could there be a worse time for Nina Stanley, O’Malley’s old flame, to show up in Ligeia as a kidnap victim? Sure, he wants to save her, but his job is to crush Laricon’s slave trade and vicious rise to power.

The young and beautiful “spare”…
Muddying the waters is Michael’s need to fit in and partake of the succulent fruits on Laricon’s human slave tree–including Alyssa, a willing sex slave he’s forced to take as his own. Now he has two women counting on him, and the fate of a world.

Nina’s goal is to get out…
No matter what it takes. Nina is appalled by what she experiences in Ligeia at the hands of the evil Laricon, but what if the price of her freedom is Michael’s life? Can she live with herself if that happens?

[f/M/f erotic, action adventure, science fiction romance. It features polygyny, but is not a ménage story.]
