First Course — The Amuse Bouche

The Tamer (by Susie Daniel) – It was hard to tell who was more shocked when Wiley ended up over Steven’s knee for a spanking.

Captured by Time (by Alta Hensley and Carolyn Falkner) – Though he found her in a brothel bed, Jude knew from the get-go that she was special.

The Ways of the WestSecond Course — The Appetizer

Kelly Dawson is a new-to-me author, whose most recent book is The Ways of the West. As you might guess, it’s an historical western. You might not guess, however, that it’s a spanking romance, too. Published by Stormy Night Publications, it’s an erotic novel about a city girl who meets a cowboy under dire circumstances. They embark on a bit of an adventure, and find themselves tied to a cattle drive. Yes, poor Jessica has to deal with more cowboys, but her hero, Johnny, is always there to protect her. Sometimes, that protection includes a spanking, but that’s not so bad. Or, it wouldn’t be so bad if her stubborn, citified ways didn’t end with her across Johnny’s lap so much.

Kelly’s story is a fun one, well-written and exuberant. The historical setting is terrific, and the sexy parts are hot. Take a look at the book on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, All Romance eBooks, or Kobo, and try a sample. You’ll likely enjoy it.

How do you feel about Halloween? When I was younger, I used to enjoy it very much. I dressed up every year, and often had parties with my friends. As I’ve moved around, those parties became fewer, and dressing up passé. These days, I live in a condo building which has no children, so even seeing kiddies dolled up for the occasion isn’t a factor. I kind of miss those days.

I’ve never been into the horror aspect of Halloween, however. I don’t like scary movies, and except for select Stephen King and Dean Koontz novels, I’ve never gotten into scary books. I think the scariest book I ever read was It by Stephen King. Who isn’t afraid of murderous clowns, for goodness’ sake? I think it’s a classic among horror books. Dean Koontz also wrote many thriller-style horror books, and I think my favorite of them was By the Light of the Moon, which puts a musician, his autistic brother, and a female standup comic, in a terrifying situation. Koontz’s best books, however, are more macabre than horrifying, and they’re the Odd Thomas books, starting with the aptly named Odd Thomas: An Odd Thomas Novel.

I would recommend any of these books if you want scary, suspenseful Halloween reading.

I have a new Romantek book coming out on November 18. It’s called, My Vacation in Rio: Romantek Book 4. You might remember I’ve mentioned it here on the blog before. It takes up a few years after Charlotte & the Pirate: Romantek Book 2, and tells the story of Amber Tachibara, Asst. Cyber-security Chief for Romantek, and Sergio Corvino, Romantek’s Chairman of the Board. They have a suspenseful adventure, trying to catch a murderous cyber-terrorist, while keeping Sergio safe from the terrorist. This is the same terrorist who tried to sabotage Romantek in Charlotte’s book, but now he’s bent on murder. There are spankings, of course, and some BDSM (light), and it all takes place in Rio de Janeiro at the turn of the millennium, 2000. It’s a sci-fi, kinda-sorta time travel, erotic, spanking romance. You don’t need to have read any of the other Romantek books to understand this one, although, as with all series, reading other books in the series adds to your enjoyment.

I’ll reveal the cover here on the blog in the coming weeks, and will, of course share the release with you.

Third Course — The Entrée

Charlotte & the Pirate: Romantek Book 2 is the Romantek book you’ll want to read before book 4 comes out. I introduced the Romantek control room and the evil villain, Esharveer Jaggi, who’s trying to bring down Romantek and harm their customers.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ from Marybeth:

“Charlotte has a large scar on her face from an accident she was in as a child. Her parents died in the accident and she went to her aunt to live. The scar came to define her. She was bitter and angry about it. When her aunt dies, she leaves her enough money for her to have a dream vacation with Romantek. She only wants to go because the immersion of her body in the gel that sustains her while she is dreaming rejuvenates her body and she is hoping that it will fix her scar.

“When she arrives in her dream, she finds out that she is in a pirate dream. She meets the captain, Rex Masters. Rex is actually an employee of Romantek who is hoping to foil the plot of a disgruntled employee of ruining a rich woman’s dream. He is attracted to Charlotte and, of course, spankings ensue.

“Patricia Green always writes a good story and I enjoyed this one. There is an excellent plot and a good ending. There are some pretty intense spankings. Always a plus in a spanking book! But, really, this isn’t a spanking book. It is a romance that just happens to have spanking.” ~Marybeth from Amazon. Direct link: http://goo.gl/1XE6O3

Thank you, Marybeth!

Fourth Course — The Dessert

You might have noticed that the Work In Progress Meter on my website doesn’t include “Spike and the Socialites” anymore. I put that book on hold, in favor of something I think more represents my career as it grows. The new book is as yet untitled, but it is in progress. I’m doing research on it now, including interviewing some interesting and colorful people. I rarely switch to different books once I’ve started on one, but, in this case, I felt it was necessary. I tend to be a linear thinker and finish one book before starting on another. Not so in this case, though I won’t be working on two books simultaneously. I’ve never done that. The new book will be a detective/crime erotic romance novel, in the gritty noir style. A bit like Striker but without spanking. Once I come up with a title, I’ll let you know.

book gourmet logoWelcome to a new feature, here on Patricia Green Books. I’ll be sharing some of the current events in books, both my books and others’. It would also be nice to get to know you better, as well as be open to you, so please chime in when it suits you. I hope you find this format both entertaining and yummy.

First Course – The Amuse Bouche

Books come with tag lines, little one or two sentence gotcha moments. Here are a few for books you’re going to love:

Striker (by me): “I knew it was taking a step toward danger, but some part of me was committed to the adventure that was Angelica Piccolino.”

Irresistible Attractions (Rod and Cane Society) by Cara Bristol: “What happens at the Rod and Cane Society stays at the Rod and Cane Society.”

Disciplined Date: The Spanking Murders (by Mark S. R. Sterling): “Nikki is torn between two powerful men who seek to control her life. Mobster Lenny Fusco coerces Nikki into helping him develop a fetish dating website.  Homicide detective Carl Howard needs her knowledge of the mob to track a serial killer. Each man will put her over their knee -panties down – to get her cooperation.  Nikki must decide which man’s discipline to accept.”

Second Course – The Appetizer

For this week’s segment, I’d like to highlight Grey by E.L. James. I haven’t read it, but I’ve heard a lot of criticism of it. Some people seem disappointed that it re-tells the 50 Shades story all over again, though from Christian Grey’s perspective. I think those people are glad to hear from Christian, but not so glad that there’s no new plot to sink your teeth into. Other people point out the irony of a fan fic writer essentially writing fan fic on her own book. That is rather amusing, though, hey, if she can carry it off, more power to her. Another comment I heard was that “Christian is a controlling bastard.” Um. This surprises readers, why? Grey is only the retelling of the first book (Fifty Shades of Grey), not Christian’s thoughts as he progresses from classic dominant into his next phase of life. In the first book, he’s very much a controlling bastard. That’s why so many women fell in love with him. He had the whole “bad boy” thing going on.

But these are all negative comments making the rounds. I wonder if any of you like the book, why you like it and if you are looking forward to more in the series. So have you read it? (Or have you decided not to read it?) What did you think of it, and are the critics right or wrong?

Third Course – The Entree

My last release was Striker, an erotic romance, murder mystery. It did well in its first month, holding a place on the Amazon Top 100 for erotic mysteries for the entire month. As always happens, sales are reduced after the first month, but, let’s face it, whether it’s a day old or a year old, it’s the same great book. You can find more info on Striker on its page, here.

One tidbit about Striker that many of you don’t know, or might not have picked up on, is that the book takes place in Los Angeles. There are two reasons I set the book there: (1) I’m a Los Angeles native, born and raised there, though I don’t live there anymore; and (2) I’m a total fan of hard-boiled detective/crime fiction from the 50s and 60s, and Raymond Chandler’s works are favorites of mine. He uses LA as a backdrop, and I figured, why not? If it was good enough for him, why not for me?

Fourth Course – Dessert

I’m starting on my next book, a new novel in the Romantek series, this week. Tentatively, it’s titled “My Vacation in Rio.” Like the other Romantek books, it is set in the future and in the fabulous Romantek dream world. The evil villain from book two (Charlotte & the Pirate) will return to create havoc again for the Romantek staff and some customers as well.

Thank you for joining me here today. Look for another installment of The Book Gourmet next week.
