Today is Thanksgiving in Canada. I know, US folks, that’s kinda funny. But it’s true, and my husband and I are celebrating with the rest of the Canadians, by having a day off and eating turkey sandwiches. We didn’t buy a big turkey this year because it’s just the two of us and it would have taken us a year to use it all up, frozen or not. Instead, it’s turkey and Swiss on good sourdough from our French bakery across the street. Woohoo!
So every second Monday in October, remember the Canucks and celebrate Thanksgiving with your neighbors to the north.
But, not only is it Thanksgiving, it’s also National Dessert Day! Could anything be more appropriate than Thanksgiving and dessert? So munch your jello and don’t skimp on the whipped cream. My favorite October holiday dessert is pumpkin pie. It’s just beginning to smell like Fall when the pumpkin pies come out, spicy and rich. Yum. My grandmother used to bake the best pumpkin pies ever. Mine are just barely passable in comparison, but that doesn’t stop me from eating them up. My husband, on the other hand, always insists on cherry pies — he’s not a pumpkin lover. I’ll eat his cherry pies, too. Maybe that explains why I am perpetually on a diet. Hmmm.
What’s your favorite October un-holiday? A birthday? An anniversary? A special October memory? Maybe you save it all up for Halloween?
I wish you all a wonderful holiday or un-holiday.
From Canada with love,
I celebrate the whole month of October! It’s my favorite month of the year! Every little bit of it makes me feel gleeful from the beautiful changing leaves to the crisp air. We go hiking, camping, to the apple orchard, and of course have many campfires culminating in one huge bonfire party on November 2nd. At that point it’s all gearing up for our American Thanksgiving!
I celebrate a lot in October. My alter ego’s birthday, autumn, and Halloween. I’ll have to add National Desert Day. LOL I love this month! Great post, Trish! Happy Thanksgiving to all our Canadian friends!
Happy Thanksgiving, Trish!
Mmmmm….turkey sandwiches on sourdough sounds like the perfect way to go.
National Dessert Day? Now that is a perfect pairing
